STUDIO POLICIES Policies help us be efficient so we have time to teach creatively and effectively.
Schedule Briargrove Music Arts offers 30-minute and 1-hour lessons once a week. Parents and teachers will arrange a day and time for the lesson. This time will be the student's permanent time each week secured by tuition paid on the first of each month by automatic draft.
Registration Briargrove Music Arts charges a family registration fee. For fee schedule, please see our "Tuition and Fees" page.
Tuition Tuition is collected by auto-draft at the first of each month. We offer two different packages, Package A and Package B, to better accommodate our students' needs. For tuition rates, please see our "Tuition and Fees" page.
Consultation Lessons Our consultation lessons provide you with the opportunity to find out more about private lessons, explore student-teacher compatibility, teaching styles, and to discuss expectations and concerns. This type of lesson is great for students who are unsure of which instrument they would like to study, the very young beginner, and students with previous music experiences or changing teachers. Because we cannot offer this time permanently to a student ready to enroll, the rate is higher than a pro-rated lesson. If, at the completion of the consultation lesson, the potential student decides to register, the difference will be applied to the upcoming tuition. Consultation lessons may be scheduled and paid for only via our website. They must be paid for in advance in order for us to hold the time slot. You may find this option in the drop down menu under Register & Pay.
Pay-As-You-Go Lessons This option is perfect for adults with busy schedules and students that would like to take some lessons over the summer between travels. If you can't commit to a weekly spot, you can schedule individual lessons where openings are available.
Withdrawal There is no contract. Please notify the business office by email at firstname.lastname@example.org before the first lesson of the next month. Your automatic draft will be stopped. Students taking a break for a month or longer over the summer will be considered withdrawn and will be subject to re-registration. Students withdrawing for summer may lose their times and may be required to find another available day and time upon return as we cannot hold lesson times.
Materials and Instruments Students are required to have materials assigned by their teacher. We can order them and provide a receipt for reimbursement, or you may search for the recommended materials online or at your local music store. Some teachers may suggest, but not require, a recording device (e.g., digital recorder, iPad, cell phone, etc.) so the student may record portions of the lesson, music, and other pertinent information. Students, excluding those learning piano and voice, are required to bring their instruments to lessons. Students studying piano need to have either a keyboard with 88 full-size, weighted keys, a digital piano, or an acoustic piano for practice at home. Your teacher will be happy to make recommendations. Absences, Tardies, and Makeup-Lessons PACKAGE A Because specific times are set aside for your lesson, a student who does not attend will, unfortunately, miss the benefit of that lesson. We will then use that time to plan for the student’s progress, locate materials, or send homework. Remember that your tuition pays for more than your weekly lesson (Please see our FAQ section). If you know in advance that you cannot make your lesson, please view our list of alternatives under Missed Lesson Alternatives. Notice of absence must be given before the scheduled lesson to be eligible for one of these alternatives.
PACKAGE B Since implementing our “no make-ups” policy in 2018, we have been able to operate very efficiently. A survey taken earlier in 2019 indicated that most people preferred Package A in place of the studio raising its tuition rates. However, upon given a choice, some families showed interest in having an option that included make-up lessons as they found it difficult to attend every lesson. The introduction of Package B will not affect those who are satisfied with what we are currently offering but will offer those interested one make-up class per month. Conditions are as follows:
No advanced notice of absence is necessary. It is appreciated but not required.
Cannot be used for holiday closings
Unused make-ups do not roll over into subsequent months. The difference in tuition should be thought of as “insurance” in case the need to have a make-up class once a month exists.
Must be scheduled for a day your teacher is already at the studio or has set aside for this purpose.
Please check to see if your teacher offers this package. Some teachers are only in studio one day per week, thus making this option nonviable.
No make-up lessons, refunds, or credits are given for the dates we are closed. The tuition remains the same each month, regardless of any holiday closings.
If your teacher must miss your lesson, a substitute teacher will be assigned to you, or you may have the choice of rescheduling, a credit, or a refund.
Please make every effort to arrive on time for your lesson. Many of our teachers schedule students back to back and cannot extend the session past the scheduled time as following students have their own schedules to which they must adhere. Your cooperation is appreciated.
Missed Lessons Alternatives - Facetime/Google Hangouts/Skype Lessons – Students who are ill should not come to lessons for the well-being of the student, teacher, and other students. If a student is physically able, the option to have a video-conference lesson during the regularly scheduled lesson time is a viable option. - Sibling Swap-out – During the regularly scheduled lesson time, a sibling may choose to use this time for extra lesson time. This could also be a great opportunity for a sibling who is interested in taking lessons to take a “trial” lesson. - Swap List - This can be used by a student to swap lesson times with another student. This is helpful in case of doctor’s appointments, being out of town, or even sickness. Parents, please fill out the Swap List sign up. - Performance and Theory Group Class – These classes are also an option for those who are unable to do a lesson due to illness (unable to do swaps or video conferences) .Two classes will be offered during the school year, one in the Fall Semester and one in the Spring Semester. Two classes will be offered during the summer.
